Corridor ID Program
Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has long supported the restoration and development of intercity passenger rail services through programs like the Corridor Identification and Development Program (Corridor ID). This program is a comprehensive planning and development program that guides and funds intercity passenger rail development throughout the country and creates a pipeline of intercity corridors and their projects ready for implementation. See the project page for more information.

In 2023, UTA partnered with officials in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada to submit two Corridor ID applications.
- The Pioneer Corridor — SLC to Boise utilizing the existing UPRR freight corridor to the north. This service would connect two of the fastest growing metro areas in the West, and
- The Desert Wind Corridor — SLC to Las Vegas Corridor, which would utilize the UTA/UPRR corridor south to Provo and the I-15 corridor from there to St. George and Las Vegas.
Neither corridor applications were accepted into the Corridor ID program. Based on feedback from the FRA, the states and UTA have a much better understanding of what FRA is looking for. The project partners are leading a multi-state effort to reapply for the two corridors’ acceptance into the Corridor ID program. The next Corridor ID solicitation is anticipated for late 2025.
